crumbs 65

This contains some thoughts on Daniel 2:24-49

Crumbs from the Master ‘s Table 65

The Promise of the Kingdom

Scripture Daniel 2:31-35 New International Version31 “Your Majesty looked, and there before you stood a large statue—an enormous, dazzling statue, awesome in appearance. 32 The head of the statue was made of pure gold, its chest and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of baked clay. 34 While you were watching, a rock was cut out, but not by human hands. It struck the statue on its feet of iron and clay and smashed them. 35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold were all broken to pieces and became like chaff on a threshing floor in the summer. The wind swept them away without leaving a trace. But the rock that struck the statue became a huge mountain and filled the whole earth. 47 The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.”

Crumbs

In Matthew 5:16 “ let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father “our Lord tells us to live and witness in such away that the praise is directed towards God. Daniel admits human weakness and gives all credit for what he is able to do, to God.

In 1 John 3:3”All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. “ we are told to be ready for Jesus’ coming any time. This comes through clearly in the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ In Daniel 2 we enter predictive prophecy. It is not there for the simply curious but it has a purpose. It raises our awareness. It points us to Messiah. The rock in the vision points us to a coming kingdom, to a coming king. At least three truths emerge. It is not made with human hands. The kingdom of heaven is not of human devising but God’s ordaining. It conquers all. Christ deals completely with our mess. His kingdom fills all. No one is omitted and it lasts for all time. It is the complete culmination of history.

Nebuchadnezzar grasped two things about God. He is sovereign and He is self revealing. These two truths are needed for survival in the 21st century. They are the acceptance that God rules and that He reveals Himself. We should look for Him in our lives, creation, in others and in His word the Bible. Questions 1.How may serve but direct attention towards God? 2. What does Daniel teach us about coping with life ? 3. How may we prepare for Messiah’s coming ?
